Biografie

Stefan Gottfried is one of the very top-tier saxophonists in Austria.

He studied under the guidance of Andy Middleton at the prestigious Musik und Kunstuniversität in Vienna where he graduated from cum laude. Aiming to give his musical career an international character he moved to the Netherlands to deepen his studies with the master saxophonists John Ruocco, Toon Roos and Rolf Delfos at the Royal Conservatory of the Netherlands in The Hague. In 2017 he has been awarded the degree Master of Music in Jazz Performance with an additional mention for his Research project “Takin’ in to the Core – A Melodic Approach to Jazz Improvisation“.

Stefan has been part of a large number of ensembles performing at internationally renowned festivals such as North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz in Duketown (NL), Brosella Jazz Brussels (BE), Jazz am Podium Basel (CH) and HARMOS Porto (PT). venues such as Bimhuis Amsterdam, PaRaDox Tilburg, The Music Village and Porgy & Bess Vienna.

He shared the stage with among others Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman, Bert Joris, Luis Bonilla, Darcy James Argue and Andy Middleton. The winner of the Marianne Mendt Jazz Award in the category “Best Instrumentalist” (2013) is striving to express himself in his own musical project Gottfried di Franco with that he regularly tours Europe performing his original compositions and arrangements.
